Cultivation & Care Tips
Sowing & Germination: Basil loves warmth and light. Germination occurs at room temperature after approx. 6–10 days. Important: As it is a light germinator, only cover the seeds very thinly with soil or simply press them down. Always keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging to prevent the fine roots from rotting.
Location & Soil: Choose a sunny, warm, and sheltered spot. Sandy-loamy, humus-rich soil is ideal. Basil has a relatively low nutrient requirement but appreciates regular watering (directly at the base, not over the leaves) during dry periods.
Pro Tip for Harvesting: Don't just pluck individual leaves, but cut or pinch off entire shoot tips just above a pair of leaves. This will cause the plant to branch out at this point and form two new shoots. The result: significantly bushier growth and a massively increased yield.
Why Organic Seeds from BioGlück?
- Certified Organic Quality: Seeds from purely ecological production (DE-ÖKO-006) – for healthy herbs without chemical-synthetic pesticides.
- Open-pollinated: We promote true varietal diversity. Our Genoveser basil is open-pollinated, which means the variety remains stable through self-collected seeds.
- Sustainable Grass Paper Bag: Our plastic-free packaging is a clear statement for the environment. The natural look and fine grass texture make every package a small haptic highlight.
BioGlück Enjoyment Tip
Basil is sensitive: Its aroma dissipates very quickly when heated. Therefore, add the freshly chopped leaves to your warm dishes only at the very end. Indispensable for classic Pesto Genovese with pine nuts, olive oil, and Parmesan, or simply fresh over tomato-mozzarella with a little balsamic vinegar.
