The fiery classic for the kitchen – aromatic, medium hot and high-yielding.
Organic Chili 'De Cayenne' (Capsicum annuum) forms slender fruits about 10 cm long that ripen from deep green to bright red. Their medium-hot, slightly smoky aroma is the basis for home-made chili powder, hot sauces or for seasoning Mediterranean dishes. The plants grow compactly and, with good care, produce several waves of fruit over the season – in the bed, in a tub or on the balcony.

Growing & care
Sowing & germination: start from February in seed trays in a warm, bright spot. At a constant 22–24 °C the seeds germinate most reliably. Cover the seed very thinly (approx. 0.2 cm). As soon as the first true pair of leaves appears, prick the seedlings out into pots.
Position & soil: from late May, after the last frosts, the plants can move outdoors or into large tubs. A deep, humus-rich, well-loosened soil in a sheltered spot is ideal so the warmth stays around the plant.
Harvesting tip: don't tear the fruits off – cut the stalks with scissors. That protects the tissue and the plant keeps forming new flowers. Picking the first green pods early increases the overall yield.
Why organic seed from BioGlück?
- Certified organic quality: seed from certified organic production (control body DE-ÖKO-006) under the EU Organic Regulation (EU) 2018/848. As required for organic seed: no genetic engineering and no chemical-synthetic seed dressing. BioGlück® is certified as a retailer under DE-ÖKO-007.
- Open-pollinated: no F1 hybrid – you can save seed from ripe pods. To keep the offspring true to type, no other chili or pepper varieties should flower nearby.
- Grass-paper packet: the packet and the germination-protection bag inside are both made of grass paper – the packaging is plastic-free and uncoated.
BioGlück serving tip
'De Cayenne' dries well: thread the ripe red pods on a string and let them dry in a dry place. That way you have home-made chili flakes all year round.
