The decorative long-runner for your bed – Crispy, tender, and ideal for continuous harvesting.

Bring a particularly robust and tasty lettuce variety into your garden with Organic Pick-and-Come-Again Lettuce 'Amerikanischer Brauner' (Lactuca sativa var. crispa). This classic loose-leaf lettuce captivates with its light green leaves, attractively tinted red-brown at the edges. It is extremely bolt-resistant, meaning it stays tender for a long time even on warm summer days and does not go to seed prematurely.

The special thing about pick-and-come-again lettuce: You don't harvest the entire head, but only pick the outer leaves or cut them two finger-widths above the ground. This way, the lettuce regrows from the inside out and provides you with fresh greens for your bowl for weeks on end.

Cultivation & Care Tips

Sowing & Germination: Sow directly outdoors, in raised beds, or in balcony boxes from March onwards. Since lettuce seeds need light to germinate, they should only be covered with a very thin layer of soil and lightly pressed down. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially at the beginning. Tip: Sow small amounts at 3-week intervals to have fresh lettuce throughout the season.

Location & Soil: Loose, humus-rich, and moist garden soil is ideal. In midsummer, a semi-shaded spot protects the delicate leaves from drying out. 'Amerikanischer Brauner' tolerates heat significantly better than many head lettuces.

Tip for the perfect harvest: It's best to harvest the leaves in the early morning when they are at their crispest. If you leave the heart of the plant (the inner core), it will reliably sprout new leaves.

BioGlück Enjoyment Tip

Pick-and-come-again lettuce 'Amerikanischer Brauner' wilts faster than head lettuce because the leaves are finer. Therefore, harvest just before your meal. The red-brown coloring is not only a visual highlight in the salad but also indicates valuable secondary plant compounds. Tastes excellent with a classic honey-mustard dressing!
