Sowing & Germination: Sow directly outdoors, in raised beds, or in balcony boxes from March onwards. Location & Soil: Loose, humus-rich, and moist garden soil is ideal. In midsummer, a semi-shaded spot protects the delicate leaves from drying out. 'Amerikanischer Brauner' tolerates heat significantly better than many head lettuces.

Tip for the perfect harvest: It's best to harvest the leaves in the early morning when they are at their crispest. If you leave the heart of the plant (the inner core), it will reliably sprout new leaves.
